FCT Teachers Reject NUT Strike, Continue Academic Activities

The Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has officially disassociated itself from the indefinite strike initiated by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT). Mr.

Juliu Ogundiran, the chairman of ASUSS, stated that the union is not involved in the ongoing strike, which began on Monday due to unresolved welfare concerns of teachers. The NUT's strike was prompted by issues such as the non-implementation of a 25% to 35% salary increment and a 40% peculiar allowance.

Ogundiran emphasized that ASUSS members should disregard the NUT's strike call and resume academic activities. He also noted that ASUSS is the sole union representing secondary school teachers, while primary school teachers are advised to deregister from NUT and join ASUSS.

The FCT administration is currently addressing wage awards, including a minimum wage of 70,000 Naira, as part of ongoing negotiations.
