Fear Grips Nigeria: Over 5,450 Killed in Violent Conflicts Across Regions

Over 5,450 people have been killed in Benue, Plateau, and other regions of Nigeria due to violent conflicts and criminal activities in the first eight months of 2025. The deaths, involving civilians, security forces, armed groups, and vigilantes, have instilled fear in communities across the country, particularly in the middle belt and southern regions.

Recent killings in Borno, Benue, Plateau, Sokoto, and Edo state have heightened concerns about security and stability. The situation has been worsened by incidents like the killing of eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps personnel in an attack on a cement company in Okpella.
