FEC Approves Gratuity Scheme for Federal Civil Servants

On Thursday, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved a new exit benefit scheme that will grant gratuity to federal civil servants, equivalent to 100% of their total annual emoluments. This scheme, which will take effect on January 1, 2026, is designed to strengthen the welfare structure of the federal civil service and ensure financial security for officers who serve a minimum of 10 years before retirement.

Mr. Eno Olotu, the Director of Press and Public Relations, disclosed this information in Abuja.

The approval followed recommendations from an inter-ministerial technical committee and aims to complement the existing contributory pension scheme, thereby enhancing retirement income security for federal civil servants. Mr.

Didi Walson Jack, head of the civil service, commended the council's decision, describing it as a bold move that acknowledges the dedication and sacrifices of federal civil servants. The initiative aligns with ongoing reforms to motivate and improve performance within the civil service.
