FEC Orders Withdrawal of N6bn Mambilla Contract

An EFCC witness testified in the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding the withdrawal of a N6 billion contract for the Mambilla power project, ordered by the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The witness, Lizzi Chirkpith, stated that former President Olusegun Obasanjo directed former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye, to withdraw the contract award memo to Sunrise Power Transmission Company Limited.

During cross-examination, defense counsel Adeola Adedip Babangida questioned the legal basis for the contract's revival, which was dismissed by the prosecution. The court upheld objections to further inquiries into the legal framework governing power sector contracts.

The case references previous opinions from former Attorneys General Michael Aondoakaa and Abubakar Malami regarding the contract's status. The proceedings were adjourned until February 18, 2026.
