El-Rufai Granted Bail but Remains in ICPC Custody

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has been granted bail by the court in the sum of N200 million; however, he will remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) until he fulfills the bail conditions. The ruling was delivered by Justice Dariu Khobo at the Kaduna High Court, which has adjourned the matter to April 21, 2026.

El-Rufai faces nine counts of alleged fraud and abuse of office, including accusations of mismanaging N1.08 million of a World Bank loan and unlawfully awarding a N4.6 billion CCTV contract. His son, Bello El-Rufai, expressed gratitude for the bail decision while emphasizing the importance of respecting the judicial process.

The court has imposed ten bail conditions, including the provision of sureties and property titles. El-Rufai was previously in ICPC custody since February 19, following his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on March 27 for compassionate reasons.
