Federal Government Launches Livestock Hub Roadmap for Plateau

On June 15, 2026, the Federal Government announced a comprehensive roadmap aimed at transforming Plateau State into Nigeria's leading livestock hub. The initiative, led by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, emphasizes the state's historical significance in livestock innovation and veterinary excellence.

The plan includes the establishment of modern ranches covering approximately 30,000 hectares within the Wase Grazing Reserve, aimed at improving livestock production and reducing conflicts associated with uncontrolled grazing. Additionally, the government plans to promote feedlot development and expand abattoir capacity to process 500 cattle and 500 pigs daily.

The initiative seeks to create sustainable livelihoods for thousands of residents, particularly women and youth, and enhance social cohesion. The Federal Government encourages collaboration among local governments, financial institutions, private investors, and community leaders to foster an enabling environment for livestock development, positioning Plateau State as a key player in Nigeria's livestock sector.
