Court Orders Release of N100.1m Judgment Against Police

The Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Adefunmilola Demi Ajayi, is taking steps to enforce a N100.1 million judgment debt against the Nigeria Police Force. This action follows an application brought by Hasim Abioye, the chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), seeking enforcement of a previous judgment delivered in November 2025.

The court had awarded damages against the Nigeria Police for unlawful actions taken against the electoral body ahead of the February 22, 2025 local government elections in Osun State. Counsel T.

Tewogbad filed an ex parte motion requesting the court to compel payment of the outstanding judgment sum and to issue a garnishee order targeting accounts held at the Central Bank of Nigeria. Justice Ajayi ruled to direct the bank to show cause as to why the funds should not be released to satisfy the judgment debt.
