Federal High Court Opens Weekend Filing for Elections

The Federal High Court of Nigeria has announced that its registries will be open on weekends and public holidays to allow for the filing of pre-election matters in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This directive was issued in a public notice signed by Chief Registrar Yahaya Shafa on Thursday.

The registries will operate from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM during these times, specifically for pre-election filings. The court's decision is aimed at complying with strict constitutional and statutory timelines governing the resolution of pre-election disputes.

This move is intended to ensure that litigants are not denied access to justice due to time constraints associated with the electoral process. The Federal High Court has formally notified legal practitioners about this arrangement, emphasizing the need for expediency in handling pre-election matters.
