UN Report: 80,000 Women Killed by Partners or Family Members in 2024

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UN Women released a report highlighting the alarming increase in femicide cases globally, with 80,000 women murdered by intimate partners or family members in 2024. Africa recorded the highest number of victims, with 22,600 women killed, representing the highest regional rate globally.

The report warns of the growing threats against women in public life, including online death threats and cyberstalking. Gender-based killings occur outside domestic settings and are linked to rape, sexual violence, honor killings, hate crimes, and other forms of violence.

Indigenous women and human rights activists remain particularly vulnerable.
