Adeyinka Samuel Wins Silver at Commonwealth Fencing

Adeyinka Samuel, the head of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, has made a significant mark in Nigerian sports history by becoming the first Nigerian sabre fencer to win a medal at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships. Competing in the men’s sabre veteran category after a 13-year hiatus, Samuel faced tough competitors from Wales, Australia, and Nigeria.

He triumphed over three of his four opponents, with his only loss to the eventual champion, Oliver Massey of Wales. This performance earned him a silver medal, the first of his fencing career, and a landmark achievement for Nigeria.

Samuel expressed his joy, recalling his previous attempts in 2006 and 2010 where he narrowly missed medals. He emphasized the importance of determination and pride in Nigeria's overall performance at the championships, which included medals for young fencers and wheelchair athletes.

Samuel also praised the tournament's organization and stressed the need for collaboration between the International Fencing Federation and the Commonwealth Fencing Federation to promote fencing in Nigeria.
