Adeyinka Samuel Wins Silver for Nigeria at Commonwealth Fencing

Adeyinka Samuel, the President of the Nigeria Fencing Federation and newly elected head of the Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFC), achieved a historic milestone by winning a silver medal in the men’s sabre veteran category at the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships. This victory makes him the first Nigerian sabre fencer to earn a medal at this event.

After a 13-year hiatus from competitive fencing, Samuel returned to the sport, competing against seasoned fencers from Wales, Australia, and Nigeria. He won three out of four matches, with his only loss to Oliver Massey of Wales, the eventual champion.

Samuel expressed his joy over the win, reflecting on his previous attempts in 2006 and 2010 where he narrowly missed medals. He emphasized the importance of determination and pride in Nigeria's overall performance at the championships.

As CFC President, he aims to reinstate fencing at the Commonwealth Games and foster collaboration with the International Fencing Federation to enhance the sport's profile in Nigeria.
