Adeyinka Samuel Elected Commonwealth Fencing Federation President

Adeyinka Samuel, the president of the Nigeria Fencing Federation, has been elected as the president of the Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF) during the federation’s elective Annual General Meeting held at Rugby School Nigeria, Atlantic City on Saturday. Samuel won the election by securing 14 votes against the incumbent, Marie-France Dufour, who received six votes.

This election is significant as it makes Samuel the first African and Nigerian to lead the CFF, breaking a tradition of leadership from countries such as Scotland, Australia, and Canada. The election coincides with Nigeria hosting the senior and veteran Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Lagos, which features over 20 participating nations.

Notably, for the first time, U-23 and wheelchair fencing events will be recognized as medal-yielding competitions, enhancing inclusivity in the sport. Delegates praised Samuel’s leadership and vision, noting his journey from a world-class athlete to the president of the Nigeria Fencing Federation.

Under his leadership, Nigeria has successfully hosted various international fencing events.
