FG Advances Research Commercialization in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Committee (RICC) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), organized a two-day workshop in North-West Nigeria to accelerate research commercialization. The workshop aimed to strengthen the National Research and Commercialisation Intelligence Ecosystem, facilitating the transformation of research outputs into commercially viable products and services.

Tamunoibuomi Okujagu, Chairman of RICC, highlighted the North-West's entrepreneurial culture and its potential for translating research into industry. He noted that Nigeria's challenge lies not in a lack of ideas but in the absence of a coordinated system linking researchers, innovators, and industry.

The proposed National Commercialisation Intelligence System (NCIS) will serve as a digital platform for research outputs, industry demand, and funding opportunities. Professor Seth Akutson delivered the keynote, urging a stronger connection between academia and industry to drive industrialization and national prosperity.
