FG Launches Workshop to Boost Research Commercialization

The Federal Ministry of Education commenced the North-West Zonal National Commercialisation Intelligence and Ecosystem Engagement Workshop in Kano on July 27-28, aimed at transforming research outputs into commercially viable products. This two-day workshop, organized by the Ministry’s Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Committee (RICC) in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is the fifth in a series of six zonal engagements.
It aims to build a National Research and Commercialisation Intelligence Ecosystem to foster innovation-driven economic growth. Participants included policymakers, researchers, investors, and industry leaders from Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
TF Okujagu, Chairman of RICC, emphasized the need for a coordinated system to connect researchers, innovators, and industry. He announced the proposed National Commercialisation Intelligence System (NCIS), a digital platform to enhance collaboration and support the commercialization of research.
Professor Seth Akutson called for a shift in Nigeria’s research ecosystem to drive industrialization and economic development.
