FG Approves ₦1.5 Trillion Kano Light Rail Project to Boost Urban Transport

The Federal Government has approved a ₦1.5 trillion Kano Light Rail Project to enhance urban transport in the city and drive economic growth in northern Nigeria. The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, revealed this during a press briefing, confirming that the project is valued at 1 billion and is already in the procurement stage.

The light rail system is expected to significantly improve transportation in Kano and bring economic benefits to the state. Bichi dismissed criticisms of neglecting the northern region, citing ongoing infrastructure projects in the area.

He also expressed support for former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje ahead of the 2027 general election, highlighting the party's commitment to delivering results in Kano. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's infrastructure initiatives were also mentioned as part of the government's development agenda.
