FG Launches N10bn Housing Scheme for Civil Servants

On Friday, during a joint press conference in Abuja, Didi Esther Walson Jack, the head of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, announced the approval of a N10 billion housing scheme for civil servants. This initiative aims to enhance access to home ownership for civil servants, allowing them to secure loans through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loan Board.

The scheme is designed to provide various options tailored to meet the diverse housing needs of workers, whether for home ownership, renovation, or rent support. Additionally, Jack highlighted incentives for civil servants, including a provision for 100% of retired employees' total annual emoluments to be funded from the treasury, effective January 1, 2026, in accordance with Section 44A of the Pension Reform Act 2014.

She emphasized the importance of affordable housing as a central aspect of national development and the commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers, particularly civil servants.
