FG Launches ₦10bn Housing Loan Scheme for Civil Servants

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan scheme designed to improve access to home ownership for civil servants. Didi Walson-Jack, the head of the civil service, announced this initiative during a press briefing in Abuja.

The scheme will be facilitated by the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loan Board. Walson-Jack emphasized that home ownership significantly influences civil servants' performance and morale, stating that owning a home allows workers to feel secure and stable.

This initiative is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at modernizing public service and enhancing the welfare of civil servants. Walson-Jack highlighted the importance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving these reforms and called for sustained efforts across ministries and agencies.

She also noted that the upcoming Workers' Day on May 1 holds special significance for civil servants, marking a time to renew commitments to their welfare and recognize their contributions despite challenging conditions.
