Tinubu Unveils N98bn Fund for 13,500 Health Centers

President Bola Tinubu revealed that 13,500 primary healthcare centers (PHCs) across Nigeria will benefit from a N98 billion fund aimed at improving primary healthcare services by 2025. During a speech at the APC National Health Convention in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized the health sector's critical role in national development, economic growth, and human dignity.

He noted that the Federal Government had disbursed substantial funds last year to fast-track primary healthcare delivery, marking it as one of the largest single-year investments in grassroots health services. The initiative aims to upgrade 2,565 centers and renovate 1,456 PHCs, ensuring they provide 24-hour services and are equipped with essential medicines and supplies.

The plan also includes retraining 120,000 primary healthcare workers over four years and expanding health insurance coverage to 10 million vulnerable individuals by 2023. Tinubu urged collaboration among governors and legislators to increase health budget allocations to 15 percent, reinforcing the commitment to comprehensive health sector reform.
