Tinubu Allocates N98 Billion for Primary Health Sector

On Wednesday, during the APC National Health Convention in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu disclosed that over N98 billion will be injected into Nigeria's primary health sector in 2025. This funding aims to strengthen primary healthcare delivery nationwide, marking it as the largest single-year investment in grassroots health services in recent times.

The funds will be released through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to support operational expenses for 8,300 primary healthcare centers across the country. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize 2,565 centers, with 1,456 currently undergoing rehabilitation.

The funding will enable these facilities to provide 24-hour services, train health workers, and ensure essential medical supplies. The plan also includes expanding health insurance coverage to 10 million vulnerable individuals by 2023 and retraining 120,000 primary healthcare workers over four years.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of health sector reform as a cornerstone of national development.
