FG Arrests Two Illegal Miners in Osun State Operation

The Federal Government of Nigeria arrested two suspected illegal miners in Osun State as part of a nationwide campaign against illegal mining. The operation was coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, with collaboration from security agencies targeting illegal artisan mining camps near Ileki Ijesa along Ilesa Road.

The operation was executed following a tip-off, leading to the arrest of the suspects, who fled into nearby bushes but were apprehended. Mining equipment and tools used for illegal operations were confiscated, and a major operational base established by the illegal miners was dismantled.

The enforcement team, led by Mr. Ajibad Ganiyu from the South West Zonal Mine Office, recovered items including two motorcycles, a pump machine, a Lister generator, washing equipment, large hose pipes, and mining implements.

Dr. Dele Alak, the state minister, reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuous surveillance and enforcement operations to eliminate illegal mining and protect Nigeria's mineral resources.
