FG Arrests Two Illegal Miners, Shuts Down Osun Site

The Federal Government of Nigeria arrested two suspects, Danladi Isa and Musa Kabiru, during a crackdown on illegal mining activities in Osun State. This operation, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, led to the closure of an illegal mining site along the Ileki Ijesa road.

The enforcement team, part of the Solid Minerals Task Force, acted on credible intelligence and managed to confiscate several pieces of mining equipment, including two motorcycles and a pump machine. The operation is part of a broader strategy to eliminate illegal mining and restore sanity to the mining sector, with the ministry emphasizing its commitment to ongoing surveillance and enforcement across the southwest region.

The initiative aims to protect the environment and ensure that Nigeria's mineral resources benefit the country legally and transparently. The ministry has previously reported the arrest of 300 illegal miners and the prosecution of 150 suspects, including foreign nationals, as part of its efforts to combat illegal mining.
