FG Arrests Two Suspects in Osun Illegal Mining Crackdown

The Federal Government of Nigeria has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illegal mining, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, Danladi Isa and Musa Kabiru, in Osun State. This operation was coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, with collaboration from security agencies targeting illegal artisan mining camps along Ileki Ijesa and Ilesa Road.

The enforcement team, led by Mr. Ajibad Ganiyu, acted on a tip-off and managed to confiscate mining equipment, including two motorcycles, a pump machine, and various mining implements.

The operation is part of the government's sustained efforts to enforce compliance with the Nigerian Mining Act, protect the environment, and safeguard the livelihoods of legitimate miners. Mr.

Henri Dele Alak, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, reaffirmed the government's commitment to eradicating illegal mining and emphasized that sponsors of such activities will face legal consequences. The operation aligns with broader strategies to ensure that Nigeria's mineral wealth benefits the country transparently and responsibly.
