FG Assesses Flood Damage on Benin-Sagamu Expressway

The Federal Ministry of Works has initiated an assessment of flood-affected areas along the Benin-Sagamu Expressway due to recent torrential rainfall that disrupted movement on the highway. Minister of Works, Mr.

Dave Umahi, conducted an inspection on Monday at the Ore corridor in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. He identified three major flood-prone locations: Agofure at Km 100, Adolak Junction near Ore Flyover Bridge at Km 107, and the Agric Section at Km 117.

The ministry is proposing targeted engineering interventions at these sites to mitigate future flooding and enhance safety. Represented by the Federal Controller of Works in Ondo State, Mr.

Olajide Hussein, Umahi stated that the ministry is evaluating the causes of flooding through hydraulic assessments of existing culverts and drainage channels. He emphasized that the recent intense rainfall has led to widespread flooding attributed to climate change, and the ministry is committed to improving drainage capacity and ensuring safe passage along the expressway.
