Abuja Court Starts Mass Trial of 20 Terrorism Suspects

On April 7, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja began a mass trial of 20 suspected terrorists, a process that is typically held in Kainji, Niger State. The trial, presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, is part of the court's activities during the Easter vacation, which runs from April 7 to April 13, 2023.

Regular court sessions will resume on April 14, 2023. The prosecution team is led by Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, representing the Federal Government, while Aliyu Abubakar heads the defense team from the Legal Aid Council.

The suspects include individuals such as Hamat Modu, Isah Ali, and Bello Shehu, among others. The court proceedings are taking place under heavy security measures, with armed personnel and police helicopters present around the central business district of Abuja to ensure safety during the trial.
