FG Launches Mass Terrorism Trial in Abuja Court

On Tuesday, April 7, 2023, the Federal Government commenced a mass trial of suspected terrorists at the Federal High Court in Abuja. This trial was temporarily moved from Kainji, Niger State, due to the court's Easter vacation, which runs until April 13, 2023.

Regular court sessions are expected to resume on April 14, 2023. The Federal High Court in Abuja is currently handling various terrorism-related cases, presided over by judges including Justice Binta Nyako, Justice Emeka Nwite, Justice Musa Liman, and Justice Akpan Ekeret.

During the proceedings on Tuesday, 20 suspected terrorists were brought before Justice Emeka Nwite. The Federal Government's legal team is led by Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, while the Director General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar, is leading the team representing the suspects.

The court's premises saw heightened security measures, with armed personnel stationed around the complex and police helicopters hovering to maintain order during the trial.
