Nigerian Government Launches N50,000 Monthly Relief Program

The Federal Government has begun disbursing N50,000 monthly cash relief to vulnerable Nigerians as part of the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI). This program was announced by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, in a statement on October 30.
The initiative is designed to provide immediate financial support to those affected by increasing food prices and the rising cost of essential goods. Eligible beneficiaries will receive N50,000 monthly to assist with their basic needs.
Dr Doro indicated that the program would undergo periodic reviews to adapt to changes in living costs, with beneficiaries being informed of any adjustments. The ministry is working with licensed digital financial service providers to ensure secure and transparent fund delivery.
Beneficiaries will receive text messages from these providers to confirm their consent before payments are made directly into their bank accounts or mobile wallets. The approved providers include ALAT by Wema, MoMo PSB, NairaGram, OPay, and Moniepoint.
