Nigerian Government Launches NPRDS Training in Oyo

The Nigerian government has initiated a new phase of its National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRDS) programme in Oyo, focusing on training individuals in artificial intelligence, vocational skills, and entrepreneurship. The programme aims to assist five million Nigerians in escaping poverty over the next four years.

Dr Abiola Arogundade, the senior special assistant to the president on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (TVEE), announced the programme's launch in Ibadan on September 28, 2026. The 10-day training, running from September 28 to October 9, 2026, will initially train 200 individuals, with a total of 700 beneficiaries receiving support, including 500 devices.

Keynote speaker Mrs Oluronke Shonubi emphasized the importance of AI skills in the global economy and encouraged participants to leverage their training for competitive advantage. The programme also includes makeup artistry training, with Rukayat Muhammad serving as a trainer for 85 participants.

Arogundade urged beneficiaries to share their skills within their communities, with plans for the programme to expand to other states.
