Nigerian Government Signs Enugu Airport Concession Agreement to Boost Southeast Economy

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), has signed a concession agreement for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. The agreement, described as a milestone in the government's infrastructure modernization efforts, falls under the public-private partnership (PPP) framework.

The Ministry of Aviation and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) signed the agreement on behalf of the government. The ICRC provided regulatory guidance to ensure compliance with the PPP framework, including due diligence and negotiation processes.

The concession is seen as a significant step towards unlocking private capital, improving service delivery, and enhancing the airport's role as a gateway to the Southeast region. The ICRC commended Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for his proactive leadership in infrastructure development and urged other state governments to emulate such initiatives.

Minister Festus Keyamo's role in driving reforms and promoting private sector participation in the aviation sector was also acknowledged.
