Nigerian Government Signs Enugu Airport Concession Agreement to Boost Regional Economy

The Nigerian government, through the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), has signed a significant concession agreement for the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. The agreement, described as a milestone in the government's efforts to modernize national infrastructure, involves the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on behalf of the federal government.

The concession, overseen by Dr. Jobson Ewalefoh, Director-General of ICRC, aligns with the government's strategy to unlock private capital, improve service delivery, and enhance the airport's role as a gateway to the South East region.

The transaction, following regulatory guidance, includes due diligence, negotiation, and approval processes. The Enugu Airport concession is expected to strengthen regional connectivity, support economic growth, and promote tourism and trade.

The ICRC emphasizes the importance of public-private partnerships in infrastructure development and commends the proactive leadership of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and other state counterparts in leveraging PPPs for inclusive economic growth.
