FG Reaffirms Commitment to Security at South East Summit

On Friday, during the 2026 South East Security Summit held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia, Idris Mohammed, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, reiterated the Nigerian federal government's commitment to achieving lasting peace and security across all regions. He emphasized that security is essential for national development, stating that without peace, investment declines, and communities cannot thrive.

The summit's theme, “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability,” highlighted the necessity of joint efforts in security. Mohammed noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has affirmed that protecting lives and property is the government's primary responsibility.

The Renewed Hope administration has implemented a comprehensive security strategy that includes military operations, intelligence-led policing, and economic development. The federal government is also investing in infrastructure projects and youth empowerment initiatives, such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), to foster resilience against crime and extremism in the South East.
