Security in South-East Crucial for Nigeria's Unity

At the 2026 South-East Regional Security Summit held in Umuahia, Abia State, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, stated that lasting peace and security in the South-East are essential for Nigeria's unity, economic growth, and national development. He emphasized that when the South-East is secure, Nigeria is stronger, and democracy flourishes.

Idris highlighted the need for a collaborative approach to security involving governments, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society, and citizens. He reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration's commitment to protecting lives and property through improved intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination, and international partnerships.

The minister also mentioned ongoing investments in infrastructure, youth empowerment, and education as vital components of the security strategy. He urged citizens to reject misinformation and support grassroots policing reforms.

Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, representing Senate President Godswill Akpabio, affirmed the National Assembly's commitment to strengthening Nigeria's security architecture.
