Four Dead, 24 Injured in Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment

The Federal Government confirmed that four individuals died and 24 others sustained serious injuries following a train derailment on the Warri-Itakpe train service corridor near Agbor, Delta State. The incident occurred on a Monday, with preliminary reports indicating that four coaches capsized, resulting in the unfortunate loss of life, which included two adult females, one adult male, and an infant passenger.

A total of 442 passengers were booked on the train, along with 40 crew members and security personnel, bringing the total number of people on board to 482. Rescue and evacuation efforts commenced immediately after the accident, supported by relevant agencies, including the Delta State Government, NEMA, FRSC, and local security agencies.

Notable individuals on board included Senator Ed Dafinon and former Delta State Secretary of State, Hon. Patrick Ukah.

The Minister of Transport expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and noted that an investigation into the cause of the accident has begun.
