Three Dead in Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment in Delta

On Monday, a train on the Warri-Itakpe service derailed in Delta State, resulting in the deaths of at least three passengers and injuries to others. The incident took place in the Owa Oyibo area of Ika North East Local Government, as the train was heading towards Itakpe station in Kogi State.

Sources suggest that the derailment may have been caused by vandalism of the rail track, which has been a recurring issue for the Warri-Itakpe rail service, leading to service suspensions. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the incident, with Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Dr.

Kayode Opeifa stating that a corporate emergency response team was deployed to manage the situation and provide necessary assistance. Subsequent updates confirmed the fatalities, and the relevant authorities are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the derailment, led by Capt.
