NSIB Investigates Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment Incident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has intensified its investigation into the train derailment that occurred on June 8, 2026, along the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor. Capt.

Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of NSIB, is leading the investigation team, which commenced inquiries shortly after the incident. The investigation aims to determine the causes of the derailment and to enhance safety measures within Nigeria's railway network.

The team includes Mr. Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, and Engr.

Funsho Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transport. The NSIB has expressed condolences to the families of victims and is committed to a non-punitive investigation focused on identifying risks to prevent future occurrences.
