Nigeria and Uganda Strengthen Trade Relations in Abuja

On July 21, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation Sen. George Akume, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral trade and economic relations with Uganda.

This was announced during a meeting with Uganda's Special Envoy, Mr. Odrek Rwabwoyo, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Exports and Industry, in Abuja.

Sen. Akume emphasized the significance of Africa's diversity in promoting sustainable growth and highlighted Nigeria's economic reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on private sector-led growth and investment promotion.

Mr. Rwabwoyo invited Nigerian investors to explore Uganda's agricultural and industrial potential, while Ugandan Minister Hon.

Bahati David called for the establishment of the Nigeria-Uganda Joint Permanent Commission (JPC) and discussed easing visa requirements for official passport holders. He also proposed renewing expired Memorandums of Understanding in education and defense and suggested new agreements on investment protection and avoiding double taxation to foster business collaboration.
