FG Deploys Mining Marshals to Combat Illegal Activities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has deployed mining marshals as part of an initiative to strengthen enforcement against illegal mining activities in the solid minerals sector. This deployment was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday, detailing that the Command Mine Marshal, Attah Onoja, will oversee operations aimed at intelligence gathering and compliance monitoring.

The initiative includes a fact-finding mission conducted by officials from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, led by Dele Alak, to various mine sites in Nasarawa and Plateau States. The team, which includes senior ministry officials such as Engr. Faruk Yusuf Yabo, Engr. Frank Odoom, Engr. Imam Ganiyu, Andrew Zubiri, and Ibrahim Abdulmaje, aims to verify allegations of illegal mining activities and assess compliance with existing mining regulations.

The statement also emphasized the importance of creating feedback mechanisms for mining communities to address concerns related to illegal mining and regulatory compliance.
