FG Charges Pastor with N19m Fraud and Embryo Sale

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated criminal proceedings against Pastor John Abeb, a 54-year-old chief consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at Joje Abeb Hospital and Joje Abeb Fertility Centre in Abuja. The charges, filed in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under suit number CV 005 26, include three counts of fraud and conspiracy.

Abeb is accused of unlawfully disclosing confidential medical records of a patient, Mari Manga, without consent, violating the National Health Act of 2014. Additionally, he allegedly deceived Manga and her husband into paying N19 million under the pretense of providing specialized in vitro fertilization (IVF) services, while intending to convert the funds for personal use.

The case highlights serious ethical concerns regarding medical practices in Nigeria, with the court set to address these allegations by August 6, 2025.
