Nigerian Government Allocates Over N13 Billion for Arms Purchase in 2026 Budget

The Nigerian government has set aside over N13 billion for arms procurement in the 2026 budget, as revealed in the appropriation bill. Key security institutions like the Nigerian Air Force are allocated N6.13 billion for the acquisition of aircraft platforms and armaments, including 2,000 AR M5T assault rifles.

The Nigerian Immigration Service is allocated N702.7 million for armaments, while the Nigeria Police Force is allocated N1.03 billion for protective gear. The Nigerian Defence Academy will deploy N253.5 million for acquiring automatic rifle magazines for cadet training.

This allocation comes after a significant decline in Nigeria's spending on arms and ammunition in 2025. Despite security challenges, the government aims to reduce arms acquisition spending in 2026.
