Nigeria's Livestock Project Expands to 10 New States

The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the World Bank, has expanded the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) to include 10 additional states. This initiative aims to transform Nigeria's livestock sector and enhance productivity across the value chain.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, during the L-PRES Implementation Support Mission in Yola, Adamawa State. Key stakeholders present included World Bank Task Team Leader Manivel Sene, Co-Task Team Leader Dr. Chidozie Anyiro, and National Coordinator of L-PRES Dr. Sanusi Abubakar.
The project now encompasses Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Borno, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, Edo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Ondo, Ekiti, and Oyo States. The expansion aligns with the government's broader reforms to modernize the livestock sector, focusing on quality assurance and export orientation, particularly in the red meat value chain.
The National Livestock Information Management System (NLIMS) will support data management and decision-making for sustainable industry transformation.
