New Veterinary Hospital Launched in Borno State

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development launched a new veterinary hospital in Kasuwan Shanu, Borno State, as part of the World Bank-assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES). The hospital was commissioned by the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Usman Kadafur, on behalf of Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, stated that this facility represents a significant advancement in veterinary service delivery within the state, aiming to provide modern veterinary care to livestock farmers, especially in hard-to-reach areas. The L-PRES project has successfully established seven Model Veterinary Hospitals across various states, with 14 more under construction, totaling 21 hospitals.

The Borno facility is equipped with essential veterinary infrastructure, including a surgical theatre and diagnostic laboratory. Maiha urged the Borno State Government to focus on recruiting and training veterinary personnel to ensure the hospital's effective operation.

National Project Coordinator Sanusi Abubakar described the commissioning as a crucial milestone in Nigeria's livestock development agenda.
