Nigeria Partners with GIZ to Enhance Solar Mini-Grid Standards

The Nigerian government, through the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA), is collaborating with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to enforce regulatory standards for solar mini-grids. This partnership was reaffirmed during a visit by GIZ representatives to NEMSA's headquarters in Abuja.

The initiative aims to develop regulatory frameworks and build technical capacity within Nigeria's electricity supply industry, particularly in the renewable energy sector. Milot Karid, leading the GIZ delegation, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in establishing guidelines for the inspection and certification of solar mini-grids in Nigeria.

Olusegun Adesayo, NEMSA's Managing Director and Chief Electrical Inspector, emphasized the agency's commitment to promoting electrical safety and regulatory compliance across the power value chain. The upcoming formal launch of the solar mini-grid inspection and certification guidelines is expected to enhance investor confidence and reduce substandard installations in the off-grid power project sector.
