FG Launches Tree-Planting Initiative on Sokoto–Badagry Highway

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a tree-planting program along the 1,068km Sokoto–Badagry Highway, a project aimed at enhancing infrastructure and addressing environmental challenges. Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, praised the initiative as a transformative effort under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

During an inspection of ongoing construction, Goronyo noted that approximately 120 kilometers of the highway are currently under construction, with 20 kilometers already completed. The project includes the installation of solar lights and reinforced concrete pavement to ensure durability and lower maintenance costs.

The highway is designed to connect Lagos and Calabar, serving as a strategic transport corridor to boost trade and security across the country. The roadside tree-planting initiative is a critical component of the government's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development, providing environmental benefits such as windbreaks and combating desert encroachment.
