Nigeria Launches N150bn Smart Highway Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of Minister David Umahi, has announced a smart highway initiative that includes the installation of CCTV cameras and solar-powered street lights. This plan is part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure and economic impact across the nation.

The project, which has received presidential approval, involves the extension of the Bodo-Bonny road in Rivers State through a public-private partnership arrangement, with an estimated cost of N150 billion. The use of reinforced concrete technology is expected to ensure the road's durability, lasting between 50 to 100 years while significantly reducing maintenance costs.

Umahi emphasized the government's commitment to transparency and efficiency, setting a strict 12-month completion timeline to prevent cost overruns. The initiative also includes plans for tree planting and the establishment of truck parks to improve logistics and community engagement, aiming to create a conducive environment for business growth.
