Nigeria's DSO Program Set for Launch Amid Stakeholder Consensus

The Federal Government of Nigeria has hailed a major breakthrough in the Digital Switch Over (DSO) program, which is set for launch tomorrow. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information, announced this development in Abuja following high-level stakeholder engagements involving regulatory broadcast signal distributors, content creators, manufacturers, and satellite operators.

The discussions aimed to resolve outstanding issues surrounding the DSO implementation, resulting in a broad consensus on key pillars, including the adoption of a hybrid broadcast model. Idris described the consensus as a clear signal that the industry is ready to share its commitment to reposition Nigeria's broadcasting sector for digital competitiveness and economic growth.

The stakeholders expressed that the DSO is not merely a technical migration but a transformative initiative capable of expanding job opportunities and boosting local content production. The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to providing a stable regulatory environment to safeguard investments and ensure inclusive implementation, leaving no stakeholder behind.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting confirmed the need for ongoing stakeholder consultations to improve business models in the broadcast sector.
