Nigeria Aligns Budgets with 10-Year Agrifood Strategy

On July 8, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria conducted a validation meeting in Abuja to align national and state budgets with a 10-year agrifood strategy. The meeting, led by Sen.

Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, aimed to implement the CAADP Kampala Declaration and strengthen Nigeria's agrifood system from 2026 to 2035. The strategy focuses on enhancing food sovereignty and revolutionizing the agricultural ecosystem.

Sen. Kyari emphasized the need for state governments to align their annual budgets with this new blueprint to ensure effective implementation.

The strategy aims to address challenges in Nigeria's agrifood system, including climate adaptation and market volatility, while targeting smallholder farmers, youth, and marginalized groups. Dr.

Marcus Olaniyi Ogunbiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, commended the agricultural sector's workgroup for their efforts in producing the zero draft of the strategy, which reflects inputs from extensive consultations across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
