Nigeria's 10-Year Agrifood Strategy to FEC for Approval

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) is set to present a comprehensive 10-Year Agrifood System Strategy and Action Plan to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for approval. This initiative aims to align Nigeria's food security agenda with the African Union's CAADP Kampala Declaration (2026–2035) and to revolutionize the agricultural ecosystem.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, announced this during the Agrifood System Working Group Meeting in Abuja on July 23, 2026.

He stated that the directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasizes the need for a coherent and implementable plan to treat food security as a national security imperative. The strategy includes targets such as a 2.45% increase in agrifood output, tripling intra-African trade, and reducing post-harvest losses by 50%.

The plan will ensure alignment of all ministries and agencies with this unified vision, following extensive stakeholder consultations across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
