Nigeria Launches 10-Year Agri-Food Strategy for Growth

The Federal Government of Nigeria has introduced a comprehensive 10-year National Agri-Food Systems Strategy and Action Plan to transform the agricultural sector, enhance food security, reduce poverty, and create millions of jobs. At the second Biannual Agri-Food Systems Working Group meeting in Abuja, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, stated that the strategy aligns with the African Union’s Kampala Declaration (2026–2035) and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The plan will undergo stakeholder adoption before being submitted to the Federal Executive Council for legal backing. Extensive consultations across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones were conducted to ensure national ownership.

The strategy aims to increase agri-food output, expand intra-African agricultural trade, and improve nutrition. Under the Tinubu administration, 500,000 farmers have been financed, over two million bags of fertilizer and 34,000 metric tonnes of improved seeds distributed, and significant agricultural loans disbursed.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, emphasized the need for collaboration among various government levels and the private sector to achieve food security.
