Nigeria Bans New Tertiary Institutions for 7 Years Amid Quality Concerns

The Federal Government of Nigeria has imposed a seven-year ban on the establishment of new tertiary institutions due to concerns over poor infrastructure and declining academic quality. The decision was made during a meeting of the Federal Executive Council chaired by Tunji Alausa.

ASUU has warned of a potential strike if the government fails to address their outstanding demands within two weeks. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has described the move as a reset button for Nigeria's education system.
