FG Issues Learner IDs to Over 1.9 Million Candidates

The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued Learner IDs to over 1.9 million candidates from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO). This initiative, described by Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa as a significant milestone, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The system is designed to support continuous learning and ensure that no child is left behind. It will capture key student data, including school location details, enabling seamless tracking even when learners transfer schools.

The initiative aims to curb impersonation during exams and enhance the verification process. It marks a turning point in the education system by assigning each learner a unique identification number, which will help in monitoring academic progress and addressing dropout rates.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize Nigeria's educational system, with plans for the next phase to expand coverage to learners in both public and private schools.
