Nigeria and Japan Launch Digital Learning Support Initiative

On June 2, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Government of Japan, launched a significant digital learning support initiative aimed at 15 federal and state colleges of education across Nigeria. This program is part of a broader educational intervention designed to strengthen teacher education and improve access to quality learning, particularly for vulnerable learners and girls in West Africa.

The initiative includes the distribution of 65 laptops, 71 tablets, four desktop computers, five interactive smart boards, 19 desktop computers, 14 projectors, 15 printers, and 15 backup hard drives to the beneficiary institutions. The colleges involved include institutions from various states, such as Kontagora, Zaria, Gomb, Yola, Asaba, Oyo, Umunze, Zuba, Enugu, Kano, Argungu, Sokoto, Adamawa, Hong, Taraba, and Zing.

The project is funded by the Government of Japan and UNESCO's International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa, aiming to address educational challenges in the region, including learning poverty, gender inequity, and the shortage of qualified teachers.
